How to make your office space pregnancy friendly

Pregnancy Test

Working during pregnancy can be challenging for women. Some women can have motion sickness;while others may have emotional ups and downs. Before your maternity leave, you may feel uncomfortable during office hours, and you may want to take some rest. There are certain things which you can do to ensure your comfort in the office space during pregnancy. Here are some guiding tips you can use to make your office space more pregnancy friendly.

1. Comfortable chair -

You can ask for a comfortable chair in case you feel that your chair is not that comfortable for working those long hours. You should ensure that your chair is well adjusted for your height so that you can bend your knees comfortably at a 90 degree angle. This will help you in keeping the back pain away which can occur due to sitting in one position for long hours. If you can get a chair whose back is tilted forward and the backrest is curved for lumbar support, this will be much better for you.In case you are not able to get a comfortable chair, you can place a small pillow or backrest against your lower back so that you can support your lower back.

2. Keep files nearby -

The lesser you bend your body, the better it will be for you. Arrange your workspace in such a way so that you don’t have to reach far to access the things you need regularly. You should try to keep the most important things that you need regularly near you.

3. Small breaks -

If you are tired of sitting in one position for a long time, you can stand for a while, walk around your office, or you can sit down with your feet up.You need to take rest throughout the day because you are growing a human inside you. It may not be possible for you to take a nap during your office hours but you can try to lie down on the left side of your chair during the lunch hours. This can serve as a power nap for you. You should ensure that you go for urination at least a minimum of every two hours.

4. Keep snacks nearby -

Keep some snacks such as crackers, nutrient bars, peppermints etc and a bottle of water on your desk so that you can have some snacks whenever you want. Drink plenty of water throughout the day because it is very important that you keep yourself hydrated during pregnancy. Eat light snacks throughout the day so that your blood sugar level is stable, and you are provided with energy to work throughout the day.

5. Don’t work when tired -

You should stop working when you are overtired. The more tired you get from your job, the more you should take time out from your personal activities so that you can use the extra time to take proper rest. Getting proper sleep at night is one of the best things which you can do for yourself to make the next day more productive for yourself at the office.

6. Get help from coworkers -

When you need any type of help, don’t feel shy and do ask for this help from your coworkers. Most of your coworkers will be very happy to help you out.
