For the last nine months, it has been all about pregnancy for you, and now it’s all about your little bundle of joy! As exciting as being new parents can be, it is also ridiculously exhausting. You’ll be tired, sleep-deprived and will find yourself with hardly enough time to even look in the mirror. But catching at least a few minutes of rest is extremely important, so you can continue being a great parent! Experts and health psychologists suggest a minimum of 15-20 minutes of me time during the day for a new mother. Getting this precious time for yourself during the day may be the only thingthat’ll keep you sane while dealing with the wants and needs of your little one. Even if you manage to take 10 minutes out for yourself, it can work wonders for your physical and mental well-being. If you need ideas on how to spend those precious ten minutes, we have just the thing for you!

1. Foot Soak
In an ideal situation, spending half and hour in the bathtub would be bliss, but even if you only have 10 minutes to spare, tend to your feet. Your pregnancy wreaked havoc on your feet and even now, you are up and about all day and for most of the night. So, giving your feet, a little pampering might be just what you need! Just soak your feet in a warm tub of water with Epsom salts and a few drops of lavender oil – it hydrates your skin, releases toxins reduces inflammation, improves blood circulation and eases soreness and cramps!

2. Meditate
Yes, it sounds like mumbo jumbo at this point, but there is something calming about closing your eyes, shutting the world out and just concentrating on your own breathing. Even if it is for 10 minutes. If your 10 minutes of meditation stretch into a nap, then hey, go with the flow! Your body knows what it needs.

3. Tend to a potted plant
Going from caring for a baby to caring for another living thing that cannot care for itself may not sound as relaxing, but hear us out. If you are a plant person, get yourself a succulent, or a whole bunch of little succulents like a tiny cactus plant! They are low maintenance and there is the bonus of having a pretty windowsill to look at! Plus, a little bit of natural greenery around the house helps people stay calm and relaxed, which is something you could definitely use!

4. Do nothing
That’s right! Who ever said that you need to account for every second of everyday? You are at the beck and call of the adorable little human you carried for 9 months. Caring for a baby involves doing a lot of things – even if not physically, then emotionally you are worrying and thinking A LOT. Doing absolutely nothing for 10 minutes everyday is the least that you’ve earned! Just put up your legs and stare away into space till you absolutely have to get back to the real world!

5. Have a proper sit-down meal
Let’s get real here, you probably don’t even remember the last time you and your partner sat down to a proper meal, with proper cutlery. Take the 10 minutes to sit down and actually enjoy your favourite meal without having to shove your food down in 10 seconds. You’d be surprised at how much better a good meal makes you feel!

6. Mini pampering session
You know what’s the next best thing after a massage? A mini massage! Ask your partner to give you a neck and shoulder massage while you lie back with a soothing face mask! We guarantee it will be the best 10-minute break you’ve had in a while! It won’t get rid of all the stress you’ve been carrying around since your pregnancy, but it will help significantly. You could even combine this with your foot soak for an all-round relaxed experience!

7. Online Shopping
You have probably spent the last 9 months online shopping for diapers and burp cloths, cribs and onesies. Let these 10 minutes be a little different. Go online and buy yourself some feel good clothes, nice lingerie, comfort snacks and whatnot. Retail therapy is the best therapy!

8. Groove to your favourite tracks
Remember turning up the bass and letting loose in your room when you were a teenager? Remember how liberating it was? Well, channel your inner teen, turn up the volume on your headphones and let loose! You’d be surprised at how refreshed you feel after!
